Anyone used Rosetta Stone?

Tom C asked:

I had 4 years of German in high school, and then took a semester in college. I was able to hold my own when I took my trip over there and didn’t have any translators.

I originally wanted to get Rosetta Stone for german to take what I had learned in the past and really nail it home to get almost fluent. However, the price has kind of changed my opinion.

If I am going to spend this much money on a software, it should be in a language that is actual useful to me, rather than just being a novelty. Since I live in the US, I don’t ever hear anyone speaking German. If I do, it is very rarely, or it is on television. So my wife and I figured it would be helpful to learn Spanish, since the amount of spanish speaking people is rising over here.

How good is Rosetta Stone for Spanish? I got very good at speaking German, so I can definitely be taught a second language. I have also heard that once you have learned a second language beyond your native, that even more are easier.

Would Rosetta Stone be worth it? My wife is a pharmacist, so being able to speak to certain patients would be very helpful. I am an Engineer, so some manufacturers, or even skilled labor use spanish, so it would help with the language barrier for me too.

Rosetta Stone Online language learning center access with library card isn’t working anymore?

nikola asked:

I’ve been using their online language courses which you get free access to (or used to) with your public library card and I really like it a lot, but it doesn’t seem to be working anymore.

I’ve always had to register almost every other time I use it, but since it lets me use my same library card number over and over again it never really bothered me much. Now, though it won’t accept my card or let me make a new account at all.

Are they not letting library goers have free access anymore?

Anyway, I’m a freshman in high school and love learning languages but don’t really want to have to spend nearly a hundred dollars on the latest language learning software. I don’t even think my parents would buy it for me and I don’t have the money myself.

I do take German and French at school but I’m trying to learn Spanish and also am trying to get really good at German.

So: Does anyone know of another good way to get lessons online that is free?
