My parents aren’t really “for” this learning a second language, but I think Japanese is beautiful and I’m motivated to learn it.

I heard that the Rosetta Stone series is effective in romance languages like French and Spanish, but it lacked a bit when it came to Japanese. And I also heard it only covers the Romanji spelling.

I would like to learn how to read AND speak it.

I heard another user talk about Auralog’s TeLL Me More learning software and wondered what other people thought of it. Does it teach you how to read it?

My parents aren’t for this, and I’m very very busy and my high school doesn’t offer it. But I’m convinced that if I think a language is beautiful enough, I should learn it.

I’ll watch unsubbed anime to help me out and try to get links to Japanese magazines. Does anyone know anything else that can help me learn Japanese? Thanks!!

I want to learn Spanish as a New Year’s resolution for my boyfriend. I have looked into Rosetta Stone, but I do not believe I can afford two hundred or three hundred dollar software. I would like to find free downloads online, but am willing to pay for software–nothing above $150 though. It’d be nice to have a program that has audio, video, and the written exercises and tests. I want a program that is actually effective, and that I may actually remember what I studied the next day. I know I am asking a lot, but do you have any suggestions?
