I’m going to be using Rosetta Stone software, and can choose between the two. I live in the US, and have much more contact with Latin American people than Spanish, but I’ve heard that it’s best to learn European Spanish.

The problem is, I don’t understand why it’s better to learn European Spanish. I don’t plan on running into many people from Spain, and the above assertion doesn’t make immediate sense to me. I will be speaking almost exclusively with people from Puerto Rico, Mexico etc.

Can someone explain which is better for me to learn and why?
